Gilbert arrived at the hospital a little after Alfred agreed that the German brothers could live with them at their house. Matthew was still ecstatic about the whole ordeal.

Ludwig  looks over to Matthew, he just woke up.  "Matthew...?"

Matthew smiled.

"Ludwig! Your brother is here to see you."

Ludwig smiled, leaning his head over to his brother.

"Hello, bruder!" Gilbert grinned, joining his sick brother's side, "How's things been for him, Matthew?"

"He's been drifting in and out of consciousness a few times, but his oxygen level raised just high enough so that would stop. He's getting better..."

Matthew ran a hand through Ludwig's golden hair with a smile. Ludwig let off a rare grin to his touch and turned back to his brother.

"When I'm better again, can we go back to the park and play with Kumajiro?"

Gilbert smiled and nodded.

"You have to ask Matthew, it's not my bear, bruder."

Matthew chuckled and answered before Ludwig even asked the question.

"Of course you can, Ludwig!"

His eyes glimmered with excitement and he thanked the nurse quickly, hoping that the day will come by soon.

"But get better first. You can't run around as much if you're laying in bed!"

Ludwig was so happy to hear the news. Alfred and Arthur came into the room. Alfred smiled at his patient and his guests.

"Hi there, Luddy! How are you feeling today?"

"Hi, Alfred," Ludwig replied politely, "I'm feeling a lot better today."

Gilbert smiled over to the two brothers with a gleam of gratification in his tired eyes. He couldn't thank them enough for save his precious little brother. Alfred took his clipboard and pen and started writing stuff down in it.

"I'm sure in a few more days you will be able to return home."

Neither of them seemed happy at the statement. They didn't have anything to return to. Matthew could see the unnerving glances they shared, and he was almost bursting to tell them that they'd be staying at his. But, just as he opened his mouth to let them know the good news, he was pushed aside.

"Mr. Jones, how is the miracle patient of yours?" A doctor cheerfully asked.

Alfred turned around and greeted the doctor.

"He's coming along nicely, sir."

"That's great!" The doctor patted his back, "Amazing work. You've really pulled through on this one. You too, Dr Kirkland!"

Matthew's eyes traced the floor slightly. He didn't really expect the doctor to think of his contribution to the success. Gilbert noticed that Matthew was getting no recognition at all when he was the one who saved Ludwig and told Alfred about Ludwig. He actually felt bad for Matthew.

"Oi, don't you want to give a little credit to Matthew too?" He scowled at the doctor. He was the reason Gilbert managed to get Ludwig safe in time! He deserved to be at least congratulated about it, not just his brother. The doctor looked at Matthew with a smile.

"He's right. Matthew, thank you for getting Alfred his proper tools and making sure he was properly sanitized."

Matthew gave a tiny smile to mask the hurt from not being properly acknowledged. Matthew just stood there as the doctor left, along with Alfred and Arthur.

Gilbert frowned. He could see it bothered Matthew easily. He rubbed the back of his neck and sighed. He wasn't the type to comfort people, but he needed to.

"You're always so quiet, Matthew. Maybe you should try speaking up a little more. You deserve more credit than you get."

Matthew snapped his head towards Gilbert. He just gave a small chuckle and a wider smile than before.

"Oh no, it's okay...he was right, Alfred did do most of the work anyway."

"That doesn't mean he should get all the credit. Without you there, he might not have been so lucky."

Matthew blushed.

"Thank you, Gilbert, I'm glad you think so. It's always been this way. I guess I gotten used to him take all the credit."

Gilbert smirked and patted Matthew's shoulder light-heartedly.

"Then I'll just have to make you un-used to it. It's not fair like that. I'm going to make sure you get what you deserve."

Matthew watched Gilbert walk out the room. His heart skipped a beat. Why was he going through so much trouble for him? Matthew took a deep breath and looked over at Ludwig.

"Ready to eat?"

Ludwig nodded as he watched his brother go too.

"Big bruder really likes you." He quietly said.

That caught Matthew's attention. He opened the food tray that Arthur brought in and the little fork that came with it and started to feed Ludwig.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean-" He swallowed the first bite with a little difficulty, but never once did his eyes waver from what he wanted to say, "Bruder hasn't been so happy anymore. He's worried about me all the time and doesn't smile... But when he talks to you, he's back to his normal self."

Matthew waited a few minutes before giving Ludwig more food.

"I'm worried about you too Ludwig...I'm worried about the both of you."

Ludwig took the food hesitantly, still feeling a little ill, but forced himself to take the bites so he could get healthy again.

"We take care of each other... We always have..."

"It won't have to be like that for much longer, you guys will have a place to stay soon..."

Suddenly, Ludwig's innocent blue eyes glowed in delight and excitement. A home?

"R-Really?" He stammered quickly, his hopes slowly rising. Matthew smiled and nodded.

"I talked to my brother and he said that he would let you and Gilbert stay at our house! You wouldn't mind sharing a room, right?"

"Not at all!"

Every part of his phiz screamed happiness and excitement. They will finally have a place to stay again!

"I just need to tell your brother. Where did he go? I hope he isn't telling my brother off..."

Reaching over slowly, Ludwig took the rest of the meal from Matthew's hands.

"I can finish this myself, you can go find him."

Matthew smiled and gave the little German a kiss on the cheek and then set out to the find the older brother. After a while, he found the other German sitting outside on the fountain. He didn't show much emotion as he stared up at the motioned clouds, but was in deep thought. He barely noticed when the blonde nurse had walked beside him.Matthew was curious about Gilbert. He wanted to know what he really thought about him. Hopefully what Ludwig said was true.

"Gilbert?"

He jumped at the sound of his name and quickly turned to the source.

"Matthew! Sorry, I was just spacing out a little. What's up?"

"I should be asking you the same thing. You looked like you were thinking can I ask what about?"

"... It's nothing. I'm just thinking about what to do after Ludwig is out again."

Gilbert couldn't let Matthew know about his worry. What if this happened again? He couldn't put his brother through that...

Matthew smiled. He had the solution to his problems.

"I have something to tell you..."

"What's that?" He asked. His mind was still racing for solutions, but he never could have predicted what Matthew was about to say to him...

"You and Ludwig can stay with Alfred and I when the time comes for Luddy to leave. Alfred said it was okay."

"What?!" Gilbert's mouth hung ajar, "Stay with... You and Alfred?"

Matthew nodded.

"You two would have to share a room but---"

He was cut off with a hug.

"Matthew... You've done so much for me... Danke... Danke!" The weight on Gilbert's shoulders had lifted incredibly. This was the break he needed. But, for everything Matthew had done for him, there must have been some way he could repay him. Matthew savored the hug. He got a whiff of Gilbert.

"As soon as you get to our home, you're taking a shower..."

Gilbert only chuckled at the remark.

"Ja, sure. It's been a while since I had a proper one after all." Slowly, and slightly unwillingly, he let go of the hug and grinned at Matthew. Neither of them realized that they were blushing at the close contact. Gilbert broke the silence and said, "You smell good, Matthew."

Matthew's cheeks flustered even more at the comment and the silence fell, but neither of them found it awkward. It felt comfortable and almost as if they were the only two in the world.

"Thank you..."

Matthew thought for a minute. He stood back up.

"Gilbert, lemme drive you to my house...you can spend the night there."

"Are you sure?" Gilbert questioned. Everything was happening so suddenly, it was almost unreal.

"Yes! I don't want you spending the night on the street anymore."

"You wouldn't let me even if I said no, would you?"

Matthew agreed.

"You're smart. You didn't have a choice in the matter. If you would've said no, I would've just set a cot up next to Luddy's in the hospital."

Gilbert sighed lightly and chuckled. There was no way he was about to argue with him. So instead, he just nodded in agreement.

"I suppose you would want to say bye to Luddy before you leave."

"Ja. It's gonna be awesome staying at yours! I bet Ludwig can't wait either."

With a strong spring in his step, Gilbert found himself almost running to let his little brother know the wonderful news. He eventually made his way to his brother. Ludwig didn't look so good. Just one look and all the excitement in Gilbert turned to worry. He quickly rushed to the bed side and checked over his brother.

"Luddy? Are you okay?"

Ludwig just smiled. His breathing sounded ragged. Matthew came behind him.

"It's time for his medicine, I thought Arthur or Alfred would take care of this."

Matthew got Ludwig's medicine and injected it into Ludwig's arm with little struggle.

"I suppose they will just take the credit...again..."

Gilbert frowned.

"No they won't. They're not here, so how could they? I'll make the other doctors know that it's you who is keeping my brother well."

Matthew sighed as he got Ludwig comfortable again.

"Almost none of the doctors know my name anyway."

"Well, they should. You're the best nurse here!"

Matthew blushed as he sat down on the bed with Ludwig and stroked his cheek so the boy could go back to sleep.

"You flatter me, Gilbert...I wish you were here everyday."

Gilbert held back the rising blush. He wished the same thing, after all.

"You'll see me everyday anyway... You can talk to me whenever you feel lonely or unappreciated. I'll set everything straight for you."

Matthew wiped away the tear that was running down his cheek. He prayed to god that Gilbert didn't see.

But he did.

"Matthew?" His hand reached up and cupped the nurse's cheek. Using his thumb, he wiped away the precious liquid, "Don't cry... It doesn't suit you..."

It was getting harder for him to hold back the tears, but he did. He managed to smile in order to reassure Gilbert.

"I'm trying not to...but...it's hard..."

Seeing how hard it was for Matthew was heartbreaking. Without thinking, he brought his arms over his shoulders in a tight embrace. Matthew's head rested gently on his shoulder, facing away from the growing blush on Gilbert's cheeks.

"It doesn't suit you, but if you need to, then do it... I won't tell anyone."

In almost no time, Gilbert heard the soft whimpers coming from Matthew. The nurse took off his glasses and everything.

"You're the only one that has ever noticed me, Gilbert. I feel like a ghost to everyone else."

"Just let it all out. I'm here for you."

Gilbert stroked along the back of his locks, trying all he could to keep the tight hold. Matthew cried and cried for what seemed like an eternity before he finally couldn't cry anymore. He pulled away from Gilbert and wiped the remaining tears from his eyes and put his glasses back on. He gave a few sniffles and a smile.

"I'm sorry, Gilbert. I didn't mean to burden you with all my problems."

"You're not a burden."

Gilbert couldn't help himself but to stare over the traced smile Matthew was tugging across his smooth lips. He felt some sort of strange urge with his own lip...

Instead, he shook it out of his system and just sweetly smiled back. Matthew's eyes were all red and puffy from the crying, and he still wasn't done!

"Come on Gilbert..."

Gilbert tried again and wiped away the access trickles down his rosy cheeks. He wanted to make sure he was feeling better again before they made their way home. But if Matthew wanted to leave now, he wouldn't argue.

"I don't want Alfred or Arthur walking in here right now..."

"... Ja... I get it. Then let's go."

Matthew grabbed his pale hand and led them out.

---Time skip---
After a rather silent car ride, they finally made it to Matthew and Alfred's house. Gilbert was a little anxious about the whole ordeal. He didn't really have time to look around the house last time he was there due to having Ludwig dying in his arms, so he didn't know what to expect. Just one look could show he was slightly nervous, but at the same time, he was incredibly grateful to Matthew's offer. Matthew, who was still down-in-the-dumps, offered to show him around the house. He showed him the bathroom and the kitchen, and the room where Gilbert and Ludwig would both be staying. Though it seemed kind of rushed and Gilbert was worried about Matthew.

It didn't take much to understand that he was still upset. Gilbert found it hard to find the right words to say which would make him feel better. If he had a way, he would use it, but sadly he didn't. Instead, he entered the room that he would be staying in and sat Matthew down on the bed. He joint Matthew's side and glanced over worriedly.

"... Is there anything you still want to let off your chest? You're rushing around as if you're trying to keep your mind off of things."

Matthew just twiddled with his thumbs.

"...My whole life I dealt with this, with everything...I just bottled it all up."

"You can unscrew the cap a little at least. Use me as a punching bag until you feel better if you want to!"

Matthew laughed silently. His blue eyes met with crimson ones. What was it about Gilbert that he found so...attractive? Was it because he cares? Matthew may never know. Matthew shook his head.

"I can't, Gilbert...I'll just have to keep the lid on a little longer."

Gilbert didn't think that Matthew knew how unhealthy that was. With an unknown need, Gilbert hesitantly leant over to Matthew and pecked his cheek.

"I'm here when you need me to be."

With that, Gilbert stood back up and walked to the bathroom to finally have a shower.
